WHAT DATA DO YOU USE TO BUILD A RISK INDEX?
We use federal, state and local official government data sources. To explore a sample of the the data we use, check out our data dictionary.
WHAT IS THE GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE OF YOUR DATA?
By 2020, ODN will have coverage in eight US states and is rapidly expanding.
IS YOUR INDEX A "BLACK BOX"?
We make our data sources transparent and part of our data output. Our road risk rating also comes with information about previous crashes, traffic volume, speed, lane width, etc..
WHAT TYPE OF MODEL IS IT?
ODN fits the best-fit, interpretable model by state. We always preserve your ability to demonstrate the relative effect of each variable on crashes.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
We have two offices -- in New York City and Washington DC. Mostly, our data science team sits in DC, whereas our front-office team is based in NY.
CAN THE DOG JOIN?
Yes! Alma, ODN’s mascot, is highly motivated by offers of treats.
WHERE IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE?
ODN delivers road risk ratings by road, so it is possible to visualize where it is safe to drive. In downtown Chicago in January 2016, the riskiest roadways looked like this:
